Having a frontman as Urban Von Ripper in your band can make the difference between being an average band or a great band, but if you are lucky enough to count in your musical group with some of the most bad ass players in town, scarred from a thousand battles… the result, apart from magical, is extremely rare in Spain. In this single they reach what they perhaps had failed getting until today, which is approaching the sound they achieve at their live performances. The feeling on these two songs is similar to that produced after an hour and a half of a live gig of Urban and his boys: fatigue, including sweat, and a big smile “on your face", all for the same price as a cold beer in many bars. "Checkmate", as its name indicates, blows you up with a sharp guitar sound, sixties garage vocal harmonies and mesmerizing keyboards, which gives the track a refreshing sound despite it’s been half a century since the
SRC signed it in 1969. They leave the heavy artillery to "Roaming Storm", directly attacking the jugular but tenderly caressing your senses at the same time, just like a night wish come true. You’d better run for your tissues… This KOTJ single is for me the best reference of this cool label till the date. But it’s also the best work from Harla Horror, I must say. From the first chords on side A these guys touch your senses and conquer your heart. Luckily there are still bands as Harla Horror.
